MotoGP news: Marc Marquez admits to 'pushing' before Jorge Lorenzo crash

Honda ace Marquez finished second in Misano after Lorenzo lost control of his Desmosedici with two laps to go.

He eventually finished way down in 17th after remounting.

British star Cal Crutchlow secured the last podium spot following Lorenzo’s unfortunate error.

Speaking after the race, Marquez hinted that his pressure forced Lorenzo into an error.

He said: “We’re very happy with this podium because we knew that at this track Ducati would be very fast and actually they were!

“They’d tested here and we hadn’t, but we fought hard and we got very close.

“I had a good start and then it took some time to bring the tyres up to temperature.

“I closed the little gap to the front but then I saw that Dovi was so strong today, so I set second place as the target.

“I was behind Jorge but he was faster than me.

“I kept pushing and pushing to see if I was able to make a move in the last lap and then he crashed.

“We took second meaning that we leave here with a 67-point advantage in the Championship which is very important.

“I’m happy, I feel comfortable on the bike, and I’m ready to prepare for Aragon, which is a track that I like very much.”

Lorenzo and Marquez will be team-mates next season.

Dani Pedrosa has been ditched in favour of the Ducati ace.

BT Sport pundit James Toseland has warned that Lorenzo’s arrival could upset the apple cart.

"It’s going to be difficult for Honda to keep hold of him in the future,” he exclusively told Express Sport.

“I think with Lorenzo there, Honda has put the No.1 rider and No.2 rider of the last seven years in the same garage.

“If Lorenzo does a great job - which he may he well do - Marquez might be inclined to go: ‘well i don’t need to fly the flag for Honda anymore’.”

Honda's RC213V bike has struggled on acceleration and straight-line speed in recent years.

However, several engine specifications were tested in the off-season to address its weaknesses.

Toseland says Honda are now reaping the rewards.

“It’s been Marquez’s year really,” he added.

“He’s rode fantastically well. Honda with this new engine have made it much more competitive for him.

“Cal [Crutchlow] as well has also had some great rides with the engine compared with last year.

“But it just goes to show Marquez’s talent, because I don’t think it’s the best bike out there by any means.”
