Marc Marquez has HUGE advantage over MotoGP rival Andrea Dovizioso | MotoGP news results drivers race and qualifying MotoGP latest - Daily Star

The Honda ace performed impressively in Qatar last week after his winter testing was interrupted by injuries.

Marquez finished second having just been pipped at the line by Ducati heavyweight Andrea Dovizioso.

Dovizioso’s was similarly imposing on a Desmosedici that looked untouchable on the straight.

Crafar has hailed the Italian but hinted that Marquez has the edge.

“MotoGP ace Andrea Dovizioso beat Marc Marquez in Qatar”

“There are certain riders out there that are unbelievable at just jumping on and riding whatever they’ve got,” he told the official MotoGP podcast.

“I think that’s where you see Marc Marquez shine.

“Dovizioso is so experienced and Ducati have so much data on that bike. They know how to set that bike up.

“People like that will shine, Dovizioso I would say is probably less able to ride everything like Marquez and will need a little bit longer to get happy, but he is so experienced and I really admire him.

“What he did at the last race in Qatar was absolute class. From qualifying to the end of the race he managed it his way. He was absolutely brilliant.”

Crafar’s analysis comes amid news of:

Ducati’s winter bodywork improvements caused huge controversy in the aftermath of the Qatar curtain raiser.

A new rear winglet left four rival factories raging.

Honda, Suzuki, KTM and Aprilia all lodged a protest with the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel.

The complaint was rejected but the quartet have opted to appeal the decision.

Suggestions that the swingarm device is designed to cool the rear tyres of the bike have been emphatically denied by Ducati.

Sporting director Paolo Ciabatti said: "We are calm because we know that we have followed the technical regulations.

"There is a circular that was distributed among the teams on March 2, which clearly specified how you could use this type of deflector on the back of the bike.

"If we had considered that this element could pose a risk of punishment, we would not have run with it. But it's not like that.

"Yamaha already used a very similar deflector last year in Valencia, to direct water away from the wheel.

"Anyway, the classification is provisional until there is a resolution."
