That’s according to BT Sport pundit Michael Laverty who insists Rossi will still be a serious force this season.
Rossi turned 40 during winter testing. However, the veteran ace proved he’s still got the magic in the Qatar curtain raiser last Sunday.
His Yamaha team-mate, Maverick Vinales, started on pole position.
Rossi was a lowly 14th on the grid but overtook nine bikes in a scintillating show of force to place fifth. Vinales eventually finished in seventh.
“MotoGP hero Valentino Rossi has been compared to Tom Brady”
“Last season he wasn’t as consistent as we wanted to see,” Laverty told Starsport.
“But Valentino can still outperform [Maverick] Vinales over a season, especially if he uses all that experience. He’s still fit and healthy.
“He’s got the ranch with the kids at the VR46 academy - he’s still got a passion for it.
“I think with the advances in medical science, it’s prolonging life and and prolonging careers. Look at Tom Brady for example in the NFL.
“Valentino has still got plenty of life in him. As long as he’s still got the passion he’ll turn it on when he needs to.”
Laverty’s claims come amid:

- Jorge Lorenzo taking to Instagram as his injury woes mount
New England Patriots sensation Brady is even older than Rossi at 41 years of age.
But the experienced quarterback is also similarly still at the top of his game.
Brady bagged another Super Bowl this year after the Patriots edged past the LA Rams with a 13-3 triumph.
He also plans to keep going and Brady has previously admitted he wants to keep strutting his stuff well into his 40s.

Rossi might not hang on quite as long, although he is contracted with Yamaha until 2020.
Rookie Franco Morbidelli, who graduated through the VR46 academy, has been tipped to be his long-term heir at the Japanese heavyweights.
The 24-year-old told Starsport last week that he isn’t burdened by the weight of expectation though.
“I just control what I can control,” Morbidelli said.
“This doesn’t add pressure, it’s just a dream.
“If people think this then it means that I already have shown some potential, but I have to keep working and improving to make this thing real.”
