That’s according to former Suzuki ace John Hopkins who says the Spaniard and RC213V bike aren’t a natural fit.
Lorenzo was ditched by Ducati last year but the Japanese heavyweights swiftly secured his services.
The experienced MotoGP veteran - who has suffered a series of injury woes in recent months - was expected to impress in the Qatar curtain raiser.
However, he ended up battered and bruised following a major crash in FP3 on Saturday morning. He then came off his bike again in the first part of qualifying.
“MotoGP ace Jorge Lorenzo struggled in his debut race with Honda ”
Hopkins reckons Lorenzo will come good but adjusting to the Honda is a big task.
“Jorge Lorenzo is still finding his feet at Honda,” he told the MotoGP podcast. “He didn’t have the start to 2019 he would have liked.
“I mean he’s leaving Qatar with a bruised body and confidence. But can he bounce back in Argentina? I believe he has the talent to do so, obviously.
“It’s just a case of how fast and how far is my biggest question.
“The Honda is smaller and it’s a far more rigid chasis than he’s ever run in the past.
“He has a very natural, flowing riding style whereas the Honda seems to suit a far more aggressive and attacking riding style - like [Marc] Marquez or [Cal] Cruchlow.
“But, the Honda suits the harder compound front tyre and Lorenzo likes to run the softer alternatives which he was allowed to get away with on the Ducati and Yamaha.
“Qatar’s unique night time element also didn’t help him through the course of the weekend.

Hopkins says Lorenzo, who is a three-time World Champion, needs to be patient and the results will come.
“I think he will still find his feet, he has the talent,” Hopkins added.
“It’s just a case of how quick and how fast he’s able to do so.
“I expect him to be right up towards the front.
“He obviously was able to do it on the Ducati but it took him a bit of time to get used to it.
“It’s a new bike [at Honda] and a new team - it’s a challenge for him.
“But come on, it’s Jorge Lorenzo. He’s going to find his was to the front one way or another.”
