Iannone staring down the barrel of four-year MotoGP ban - BSN

Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone is facing a maximum four-year ban from competition if his B sample confirms the result of the first drugs test he failed in December, which would effectively bring his MotoGP career to an end.

Iannone was suspended from any sort of testing or competition last month after a sample given at Sepang was found to contain a banned substance.

The Italian immediately asked for the B sample to be tested - which happened two days ago - but no result has yet been forthcoming from WADA or the FIM.

His lawyer has released a statement about the B sample result (‘positiive but a very small amount) but the above agencies have released nothing official.

Iannone says he has a clear conscience and has done nothing wrong, believing he has ingested the substance as part of a meal.

“I am not working on a plan B. The most important thing is to be quick with Aprilia. Motorcycling is my life. I’m not so stupid to risk other things,” said Iannone.

Should Iannone’s second sample be positive, Aprilia would have to bring in test rider Bradley Smith for the 2020 season before trying to sign a new rider in 2021.
