MotoGP ace Cal Crutchlow refuses to help Jorge Lorenzo - EXCLUSIVE - Daily Star

Cal Crutchlow says there’s no chance he’ll help Jorge Lorenzo adapt to life at Honda.

The Spaniard joined the Japanese manufacturer last year after being ditched by Ducati.

But his campaign has been an unmitigated disaster with the experienced star enduring a host of serious crashes.

Lorenzo has been missing for the last four races after fracturing his back in Holland and publicly hinted that he’d considered quitting the sport.

The 32-year-old will race at Silverstone this afternoon but is starting a lowly 21st on the grid.

When asked if Lorenzo still has the passion to compete in the premier class after his injuries, Crutchlow said: “I don't know. You're better off asking him.

“I have it [in me] because I'm from a different breed of person and rider to him. But me talking about him in that sense, I don't really know. We'll see in the next year and a half in his contract.

“In a sense he's been injured at the end of last year and he's also been injured this year with the bike he's riding.

“He's having to ride it a different way and he's struggling. With crashes come injuries.

“When you look at Marc [Marquez], when he was first starting with the Honda he was crashing a lot.

“He was also injured a lot of the time with his shoulder and hand. That's the nature of the sport. You have to try and adapt, understand the bike better to crash less or manage the situation.

“But I'm not definitely not going to tell him how to do it.

“If I knew completely myself I'd be in a different position, but Marc's figured it out this year a lot more.

“I’ve crashed a lot less - touch wood - than I have in previous years. But I also don't feel I'm at my limit. In other years when I have crashed I felt I was the limit. Let us see.”

Crutchlow has previously complained that the RC213V bike is moulded in Marquez’s image.

However, the British ace - who crashed during qualifying yesterday - says it can be rewarding to ride.

He believes Lorenzo faces an uphill battle to tame the machine.

“The bike is notoriously difficult to ride,” he added.

“But on the other hand you get such a sense of satisfaction when you can ride it well - and you get a result because I think we're working harder than the other riders with our manufacturer.

“That just shows the class of Marc because of what he can do year in, year out.

“I think it's just going to take Lorenzo a long time to adapt, or he's not going to be able to adapt.

“I seem to the only guy that's come from another manufacturer and been able to adapt with the Honda.

“But I still don't feel 100 per cent - and I'm five years in with Honda.”
