That’s according to BT Sport pundit and paddock insider Neil Hodgson who says The Doctor is cutting a frustrated figure.
Rossi has been intermittently competitive during this campaign.
But technical issues and bad luck have effectively ended his title charge.
He crashed out of the last two races and hasn’t managed a podium finish since Austin.

Rossi is also without a Grand Prix win since June 2017.
Recurring problems with his M1 completely derailed his 2018 season.
And, although the bike is performing better this year, it’s still not firing on all cylinders.
“He’s got a lot of credibility,” Hodgson told Starsport. “He knows the right way to get things done, but I’m sure behind closed doors he’s not happy at all.
“It’s not Rossi’s style to throw his helmet around the garage, shouting and swearing,
“He’ll be working in a very professional manner to ensure they improve his bike.
“The problem is that time is ticking for Rossi. He wants to win his 10th title and he’s not getting any younger.
“Next year I’m assuming will be his last ever in racing.
“But they can’t sort it this year because the engines are sealed.
“To make that motorcycle faster they need more horsepower - and that’s all down to the engine. Their hands are tied for this season.
“It’s the same problems for three years. Last year there was the announcement from Yamaha basically apologising for letting Rossi down - it’s more of the same, de ja vu.”
Ducati’s Desmosedici has become highly respected for its fearsome acceleration.
The Bologna-based factory have developed a similarly impressive offering this term - but Honda have also upped the ante.
Yamaha, meanwhile, still haven’t found a way to seriously compete with their main rivals.
“The problem is when you get to race and the other bikes have got more top speed,” Hodgson added.
“Every time you get on a straight behind another rider, they pull away from you.
“Then it’s impossible to pass them. And, if there’s another rider behind, they pass you!
“The Ducati and Honda, the way to do a good lap time on those is stop the bike in the corner, turn it and fire it out.
“With the Yamaha you’ve got to carry corner speed.
“The problem is they clash. And if you’re behind on a Yamaha - and the rider in front has stopped in the corner - you can’t pass because there’s no room.”
MotoGP action resumes next weekend in Assen. Marc Marquez is top of the overall standing having triumphed in Barcelona.
The Catalan is a whopping 37 points clear of Andrea Dovizioso in second spot.
