MotoGP hero Valentino Rossi takes thinly veiled swipe at Yamaha ahead of Dutch TT - Daily Star - Daily Star

The Doctor heads to Assen this weekend - the location of his last Grand Prix win in 2017.

It’s been another complicated campaign for the veteran superstar.

He started the season solidly and managed podium finishes in Argentina and Austin.

However, the wheels have come off in recent weeks due to a mixture of bad luck and all too familiar technical gripes.

“MotoGP ace Valentino Rossi isn't happy with Yamaha ”

Yamaha have improved their overall offering and Rossi, despite his advancing years, says he’s feeling better than ever.

Nevertheless, the experienced ace has politely suggested Yamaha need to up the ante in their bike development.

"What do I see? We are in a difficult technical moment,” he told Crash.net.

“I think and I hope that Yamaha have to do more, to be more competitive, because now with MotoGP the level of the opponents is very high.

"But I think I'm in a good shape. I can ride well. I can prepare for the races in a good way with my experience, so I think that we can be competitive."

Rossi crashed out of the Catalan Grand Prix after Jorge Lorenzo’s horror crash.

The Spaniard dropped a huge clanger at Turn 10 and was forced to break hard and late.

He clattered into rivals Maverick Vinales and Andrea Dovizioso who were immediately wiped out.

Valentino Rossi was also forced to retire after he was clipped by Lorenzo’s runaway bike.

The Doctor insists he’s ready to put the disappointment of Barcelona behind him, though.

"After the unlucky race in Barcelona we are ready for the two consecutive GPs of Assen and Sachsenring," Rossi said.

"In Montmelo we did a good job in the garage, we worked well, and we were very fast.

"I felt good during the two laps in the race, so in the Netherlands this week we will work hard to get ready for the fight at the front again.

"The Catalunya test was positive, and I think the conclusions can help us have a good race weekend here. We will do our best.”
