The Spaniard started way down the grid after struggling in qualifying.
But he battled up the pack to eventually finish the race fourth.
Rins admits his Suzuki couldn’t compete with the Honda and Ducati factory bikes on the straights.
However, the 23-year-old insists he would be have been serious contender in Italy if he had more horsepower.

"Before the start of the race, we already know that this track will be difficult for us for this long straight," Rins said.
"For sure after crossing the finish line on P4 I was disappointed because I think I had rhythm to win the race, but anyway we finished in fourth position in a track that we struggle a lot for this long straight.
"It's hard for the championship because now Marc [Marquez] and [Andrea] Dovizioso go a little bit - but anyway a lot of races to do, always on the second part of the championship we are strong.
"In Qatar and here that was two tracks very difficult [for Suzuki], we finish on the fourth position, we beat some Ducatis, we beat some Hondas, so it's okay."

Danilo Petrucci bagged his first even Grand Prix win, despite competing in the premier class since 2012.
The 28-year-old has previously been a Superstock 1000 Championship winner but has often been forced to make up the numbers in MotoGP.
Following the race, Petrucci admitted he had previously considered hanging up his leathers.
"I thought many times in the past to quit my career because I said 'this [MotoGP] is not my world'," he said.
"Also, at the beginning of this year, because I have no contract for next season I put pressure on myself and the first three races were not so good.
"Once again it was Andrea that helped me, telling me not to think about the future. Think about now. Try to enjoy what you are doing. Focus on your strong points, work hard.
"From Jerez, I just think, 'I will do my best. If it's enough, okay. If not, and if I cannot win with this bike, then I’m not able to win with any other bike, so [MotoGP] is not my world'.
"But today I won, so maybe I will change my mind about the future!"
