MotoGP news you MUST read today: Rossi and Marquez row, Lorenzo exclusive, Crutchlow claim - Daily Star - Daily Star

Marc Marquez cruised to glory in Jerez last Sunday. The Catalan started third on the grid after Fabio Quartararo grabbed pole position in qualifying.

But the five-time world champion showed his class by overtaking Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli on the first corner.

Quartararo looked destined to bag a memorable podium finish.

However, disaster struck midday through the race after he suffered a gear box malfunction and was forced to retire.

“Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo had mixed fortunes in Jerez”

Valentino Rossi finished sixth in Jerez after a woeful qualifying session.

After the clash he warned Marquez that the championship race will have lots of twists and turns.

He told GPone: "I'm nine points from Marc, but only because me made mistakes in Texas, [or] else he'd have already won three races.

"He's definitely the strongest and to fight for the title we need to start winning races.

"Having said that, anything can happen in MotoGP - things change quickly.

"Right now, we need to take it day by day, focus on Le Mans and try to be competitive right away."

Jorge Lorenzo, meanwhile, continues to suffer this season.

He could only manage a 12th-place finish in Andalusia having floundered in the first three races.

BT Sport pundit Michael Laverty told Starsport that the Spaniard is still wrestling with injuries.

"He doesn't talk about it [his injuries] too much - but I watch him hobble towards the bike," Laverty said.

"He isn't walking freely, he's still carrying himself a little bit.

"In my opinion he's not back to full fitness just yet and that will hinder him.

"It'll all got to come together. He needs time for the injuries to heal and time to set the bike up to use his strengths as a rider.”

Cal Crutchlow

British hero Cal Crutchlow crossed the line in eighth, but the LCR Honda man isn’t happy with his bike.

After testing on Monday, he said: “I still don't get it, I still don't get the same feeling as the 2018 chassis, and we need to work on that.

“But it's not going to come through setting. Unfortunately, we're not on the 2018 chassis as such, we're on something that fits more the 2019 engine, and the feeling is just a little bit different.

“I don't have the confidence in the front that I had last year, or that Taka [Nakagami] has got in his bike.

“And in the middle of a lot of the fast corners here, Taka is faster than all the Honda riders, and that's because of the chassis he's on.”
