Jorge Lorenzo issues injury update to Moto GP fans in Qatar prediction | MotoGP news results drivers race and qualifying MotoGP latest - Daily Star

Lorenzo was absent for the first pre-season test in Sepang due to a wrist injury but is expected to be at Qatar for next week’s testing session.

The Spaniard, who spoke to Sky Sports Italy, will be teaming up with current world champion Marc Marquez this season.

It is the first time in history that two riders who’ve won the last seven world championships will be in the same team.

And Lorenzo is aware of the pressure that brings having watched Marquez win the last three titles since his most recent success in 2015.

His last win was at Austria in August 2018 and when asked when he envisaged winning on a Honda the 31-year-old’s answer was clear.

He said: “As soon as possible, I hope, nothing is impossible, maybe it will happen in Qatar even if it''s difficult.

“I think in a week I'll be even better than now, I'll be ready to ride the Honda.

“In returning to 100 percent [fitness], we miss a lot of [track] time. This kind of injury always leaves you with problems.

“I think I will be 80 percent for the test, and then 85 percent for the race.”

Lorenzo and Marquez have 91 MotoGP wins and 95 pole positions between them but the Honda new-boy reckons they are “even stronger” than the stats suggest.

He added: “Looking at the numbers, it is pretty clear we are one of the strongest teams in the history of MotoGP.

“But sometimes you can win titles because maybe the competition is not as high as it is today.

“We are certainly one of the best pairings in terms of numbers, but surely as speed and talent (goes) we are even stronger than what the numbers show.”
