That’s according to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol who say the Japanese heavyweights were trying to convince Marquez to quit Honda last year.
It’s suggested the proposed deal included a blank cheque and a promise that Rossi’s contract wouldn’t be renewed.
Marquez reportedly snubbed the stunning offer though.
The Spaniard didn’t want to rival Rossi at Yamaha because he reveres the veteran star.
Instead, he opted to pen a new two year contract extension at Honda.
The 25-year-old is the youngest rider ever to win four titles.
Marquez secured glory twice two years consecutively in 2016 and 2017 and in 2013 and 2014.
Speaking earlier this week he admitted that Rossi - who’s season was blighted by a leg break last term - will be a force this time round.
“Valentino Rossi could have been edged out at Yamaha”
Marquez also singled out Ducati ace Andrea Dovizioso, Tech3 star Johann Zarco and his team-mate - Dani Pedrosa - as rivals to his crown.
He said: ”Dovizioso, who is already a focused driver, I expect even more from him than last year.
“Zarco is there - and Valentino is Valentino.
“The last day in Qatar has already popped in.
“Dani Pedrosa has many options, but we will try too, eh "
Marquez didn’t mention his compatriot Jorge Lorenzo, though.
The 30-year-old switched from Yamaha to Ducati in 2017.
But despite being a decorated rider, Lorenzo has struggled at the iconic Italian bike maker.
He only finished seventh overall last season.
