The 2017 season came to an end at the weekend with Marc Marquez being crowned World Champion at the Valencia GP.
But it was a year to forget for the sport’s legendary racer, who only managed to finish fifth in the standings.
Rossi admitted after the race that he was never happy with his 2017 Yamaha M1, but testing for next season hasn’t gone much better.
Footage taken from the Valencia session today shows the nine-time world champion skidding across the tarmac after being thrown from his bike.
The 38-year-old miraculously walked away from the incident but his vehicle didn’t fare quite as well and looked completely demolished at the side of the track.
Twitter was quickly awash with worried fans.
“Huge crash for Valentino Rossi. Bike is totally wrecked,” one wrote.
Another commented: “Hope you’re okay after that crash Valentino.”
Rossi admitted he was worried about the performance of his Yamaha after the 2017 season.
“My bike was not working well since the first test last year and we lost time,” he said.
“The bike is easier to ride but it makes the situation worst in terms of tyre consumption.
“I spoke with the Japanese engineers and they are worried as I am.
“They listened to me but they didn’t say what they are going to do.
“There is not just one area to work on, but various areas.”
