MotoGP is entering its 13th round of the 2017 season, with the world’s best riders heading to Misano for the San Marino Grand Prix.
MotoGP 2017 has been a close fought contest, with Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso leading the standings from Honda’s Marc Marquez.
Dovizioso jumped into the lead for the MotoGP 2017 championship race after a dramatic win last time round at the British Grand Prix.
The Italian star overtook Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi with just three laps remaining at Silverstone.
Marquez, then the championship leader, suffered a big blow in the title fight after his Honda was hit by a dramatic engine failure on lap 13 out of 20.
The three-time MotoGP champion will now be looking to bounce back immediately at Misano.
One rider who won’t be at the San Marino Grand Prix is Rossi, who suffered fractures to his right leg after falling recently during training.
The GOAT contender is in fourth place in the standings, but will miss out on the chance to rack up more points at Misano.
In a recent interview, Rossi said: "The leg is painful, but in general I feel good.
"It's a lot worse, the mental condition, as it was a great, great shame throwing away all the chance for the championship and also to race at Misano in my home Grand Prix.
"It is a great, great shame, I have to say sorry also to all my team [that I] don't race, but unfortunately it's like this, and now we have to work to come back as soon as possible."
Rossi said a return in Japan, in mid-October, is the likeliest point for him to make a comeback - which would virtually end his chance at winning the title.
Yamaha are not replacing Rossi at Misano, instead just fielding Maverick Vinales.
