Shaina Salvia A. S.:
Congratulations on your great win at Misano, how did it feel when you crossed the finish line?
Dominique Aegerter:
Thank you! The race was really tricky, really wet and difficult because of the slippery asphalt. As you saw, there were many crashes and when Morbidelli crashed in front of me I took over the lead and was saying to myself, 'keep calm, relax, ride smooth, don’t push too much'. I fought with Tom a bit, but stayed in front. When I crossed the finish line I was really, really happy to achieve the second victory of my career. The race was so hard for the concentration, so finally I could relax and I just felt happy for me and everybody who helped me.
Shaina Salvia A. S.:
You qualified third in the dry, but did you think you could win the race in the wet?
Dominique Aegerter:
To be honest, no! Because I was really strong in the dry conditions all weekend, so when I saw the rain on Sunday morning I thought 'No! We will have a wet race!' After the warm-up I felt not so bad, but I was thinking I can be top ten or maybe top five if everything goes well. But for sure I never thought I could win!
Shaina Salvia A. S.:
So why did you ride so well? Was it the performance of the Suter, the tyres or yourself?
Dominique Aegerter:
To win a race you need everything together. There was a big support from the Suter guys and the Kiefer Racing team, but then I was on the bike so the biggest point is what the rider needs to do. But like I say everything needs to be perfect to win a race and on Sunday we got everything right and we won the race together.
Shaina Salvia A. S.:
What has been the biggest improvement for the bike since the first race of this year?
Dominique Aegerter:
Good question. The bike was already really competitive when we tested in the winter, but then we came to the first grand prix we saw that racing is a different matter. All season with our package we were not really as competitive in the races as in practice. The Suter guys have brought small parts for the aerodynamics, for the chassis, for the swingarm to test, to try to improve this. But the bike feels great, it's just in the race when we fight we are always losing some tenths. For sure we still need to work on this.
Shaina Salvia A. S.:
You are now eighth in the world championship. What is your target for the end of this season?
Dominique Aegerter:
My target for the last five races is to show that I can still fight at the front also in dry conditions. It's important and, like I said at the start of the season, my goal is to finish every race in the top five. I haven’t achieved that too many times so I would like to show that I can do that in the remaining races.
Shaina Salvia A. S.:
Thomas Luthi will move to MotoGP next season, is that still your goal?
Dominique Aegerter:
For sure I'm really, really happy for my Swiss friend Thomas Luthi that he can arrive in MotoGP, with a good team and good support from Honda. It'll be amazing to have a MotoGP rider from Switzerland. For me it's still a dream and a goal to try to go to MotoGP in the future.
Shaina Salvia A. S.:
Misano was special because your first place and Thomas Luthi second made the first ever Swiss one-two in grand prix motorcycling…
Dominique Aegerter:
We've been waiting a long, long time to do this! As you say, it had never happened before and already when we were team-mates in the past our goal was to finish one time on the podium together.
The funny thing is I said that again to Tom only two-three weeks ago; 'we need to see if we can be on the podium together this year, because you are moving up to MotoGP and then it will be not so easy!'
It's amazing for Switzerland, for the sport in Switzerland. Switzerland is a small country, with no circuits. So we achieved something big and I'm very happy and proud to be from Switzerland.

Luigi Taveri [125cc world champion 1962,'64, '66] is a Swiss legend who dedicated his life to racing, are there any lessons you took from him to help your career?
Dominique Aegerter:
Luigi has a lot of experience, was world champion and many times on the podium. A really good rider, really clever and also a good person and friend of mine. His concentration and approach before, during and after a race was really professional and calm. He only thought about and put all his concentration into motorcycle racing. That's a great skill to have. Sometimes I think a little too much about stuff that is not important!
