Sepang CEO Razlan Razali says there are now 'no plans' for the circuit to hold a second MotoGP race in 2020.
With the opening four rounds of the season disrupted by coronavirus, a second event at the Malaysian venue - which hosted the opening pre-season test in February - had been rumoured to help fill the void.
Razali previously asked Malaysian fans what they would think of the idea via a link to an online poll, but the country has since announced a ban on Italian nationals and in a statement released to the media Razali effectively ruled out hosting another race:
'Based on the recent news where Malaysia could be potentially hosting a second MotoGP due to the postponement of other circuits, SIC has no plans on hosting a second race.
'With the current situation in regards to the Corona Virus (CoVid-19) in Malaysia and worldwide, along with the advise from the Ministry of Health (MOH), the safety of the MotoGP fans, riders, team, staff and all personnel involved remains our top priority.
'I would like to take this opportunity to advise everyone to be safe at all time and we must remain strong and hope to be able to soon watch our favorite race again.'
Dato’ Razlan Razali
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sepang International Circuit (SIC)
With Qatar cancelled for the MotoGP class and the postponement of Thailand, USA and Argentina until the end of the season, the first race of the year for the premier-class is now scheduled for Jerez, from May 1-3.
Sepang had again been due to host the penultimate round, but COTA and Termas de Rio Hondo have now been slotted in between Malaysia and the delayed Valencia finale.
